SharePoint 2007 Solution to act as a Management of Change (MoC) System for a Manufacturing Plant

Overview

Client:

A USA-based manufacturing company engaged in the design, manufacture, construction & servicing of a wide range of products and services for the core sectors.

Executive Summary

The client required a change management solution to track impending physical and process changes to the plant and notify the concerned managers in time so that they can plan accordingly, in advance. The client also needed a document management system to upload relevant documents in proper libraries and create a complete workflow to track the status of unapproved documents. So, it consulted De Facto Infotech for the solution. De Facto created a scheduler in SharePoint which runs once every 24 Hrs, and imports all the change requests from the external system and updates SharePoint database. Since the implementation of the new MoC, the client is experiencing a lot of ease, as the managers are notified well in advance about the impending changes in the plant, enabling them to prepare well in advance.

Challenge

The client, a manufacturing company wanted a change management solution to track impending physical and process changes to the plant and notify the concerned managers in time to plan ahead. In terms of physical change in the plant, the equipment is to be changed and in terms of process change, it usually intends revising or adding of process within the department or across the plant.  In addition to this, the client needed a document management system to upload relevant documents in proper libraries and create a workflow to track the status of unapproved documents.

Solution- Focus on operational efficiency through automation

Our SharePoint consultants had a-requirement gathering session with the client’s team to gain an in-depth understanding of the current process. Based on the feedback, a solution was developed using the SharePoint site utilizing SharePoint 2007 (MOSS) platform and its workflow, document management, and library and list capabilities. Our team created a scheduler in SharePoint which runs once every 24 Hrs. and imports all the change requests from the external system and updates SharePoint database.
